**#NIXONFIRE [FINAL UPDATE 8/7/24 at 4:15 p.m.] The fire remains at 5,222 acres and is 100% contained.

UPDATE 8/6/24 @ 8 a.m. The fire remains at 5,222 acres and is 96% contained.

UPDATE 8/5/24 @7:00 PM. Today, firefighters continued to work hard to ensure strong control lines around the fire’s perimeter. Crews will remain in the area over the next several days, continuing mop up and gain complete containment of the fire. Residents and visitors are reminded to use caution when driving near the fire area.

UPDATE 8/5/24 @3PM. As of 3:00 PM all Evacuation Orders and Evacuation Warnings have been lifted for the Nixon Fire. Firefighters will remain in the area for several days, continuing to mop up and patrol the area. Residents and visitors are reminded to use caution while driving in the area. 

UPDATE 8/5/24 @7AM. The fire remains at 5,222 acres and is 82% contained Overnight, firefighters continued to make great progress on control and containment. Resources will continue to work in the fire area on mopping up hot spots and performing suppression repair.

**UPDATE 8/4/24 @7PM. ** The fire is mapped at 5,222 acres and is now 82% contained. Today, fire crews strengthened control lines and made excellent progress within the fire line. With elevated temperatures and dry weather, unburned vegetation within the perimeter of the fire burned and produced visible smoke. Resources continue to work diligently to establish containment lines.

UPDATE 8/4/24 @7AM. The fire is mapped at 5,222 acres and is now 57% contained. Through the night, firefighters continued to make good progress although challenged by rugged terrain in the Beauty Mountain Wilderness area. Today crews will continue strengthening the containment lines while mopping up and patrolling the fires perimeter area. The Evacuation Order area remains within the fire's perimeter.

UPDATE 8/3/24 @7AM. The fire is mapped at 5,222 acres and is now 39% contained. Overnight firefighters continued to make progress while strengthening and reinforcing control lines around the fire. CAL FIRE and Riverside County officials will continue to conduct damage inspections throughout the fire area. Residents may continue to see hot spots within the interior of the fire as crews work throughout the day. Please be aware that emergency vehicles will continue to be in the area, residents are advised to use caution in the perimeter of the fire. 

UPDATE 8/2/24 @7PM. The Fire is mapped at 5,222 acres and is now 30% contained. Today, firefighters continued strengthening and reinforcing control lines around the fire. Crews continue to address hot spots within the interior of the fire. Damage inspections are ongoing, and crews are conducting mop-up operations around structures within the fire line. With warming and drying trends expected in the coming days, crews will continue to aggressively establish containment lines.

UPDATE 8/2/24 @7 AM. The Fire is now mapped at 5,222 acres and is now 21% contained. Overnight, the fire has moderated and strong work by firefighters has kept the fire within the existing perimeter. Crews continue to construct and reinforce containment lines around the fire. The monsoonal weather pattern may produce lightning and increased winds, creating potential for increased fire activity. Firefighters will continue to work aggressively to gain additional control throughout the day.

UPDATE 8/1/24 @ 7 PM. The fire is now mapped at 5,222 acres and is 18% contained. Throughout the day, the fire showed minimal growth and backing towards the northeast and southeast portions. Firefighters continued to utilize water dropping helicopters to assist in maintaining control lines, although the fire will continue to have spots well within the containment lines which will produce smoke. Today firefighters were challenged with changing weather conditions, however, they were aided by an increase in humidity due to the monsoonal flow which was expected over the fire area. Crews will remain actively engaged to gain additional control over the next several days. Today damage inspection teams worked within the fire area and updated damaged and destroyed structures.

UPDATE 8/1/24 @ 7 A.M. The fire is now mapped at 5,192 acres and is 14% contained. Overnight the fire experienced minimal activity with no additional growth. Interior pockets of fuel will continue to burn over the next several days as firefighters gain additional control. Moisture will increase through Friday as monsoonal flows develop over the fire area, with a chance of producing thunderstorms and lightning.

UPDATE 7/31/24 @ 7 P.M. The Nixon fire experienced moderate weather throughout the day. Crews continue to go direct with handline construction and hose lays on the southeast portion of the fire towards the Beauty Mountain Wilderness area. A change in weather patterns may produce lightning and increased wind which could challenge established control lines for the next few days.

UPDATE 7/31/24 @ 7 A.M. Overnight the fire displayed moderate fire activity and continued to burn to the south and east, along the San Diego County line and the Beauty Mountain Wilderness in steep and rugged terrain. A small two-acre spot fire did cross into San Diego County but was mitigated by firefighters. The fire is expected to continue with moderate growth to the southeast due to low humidity and daytime heating. Over the next three days, a change in the weather pattern shows an increasing chance of thunderstorms and lightning activity, firefighters will continue to work aggressively to gain additional control. Residents within the fire area are reminded to pay attention to evacuation warnings and orders.

UPDATE 7/30/24 @ 7 P.M. The Nixon fire displayed moderate fire activity and continued to burn to the south and east, adjacent to the San Diego County line and the Beauty Mountain Wilderness in steep and rugged terrain. Today's fire activity has been wind and terrain driven. Firefighters will continue to work throughout the night within the fire's footprint, focusing on building direct line and improving containment while maintaining structure defense to safeguard the residents of Aguanga.

All evacuation orders and warnings will remain in place.

UPDATE 7/30/24 @ 2:30 P.M. The fire is now mapped at 4,500 acres and remains 0% contained. One residential structure was destroyed and four unknown structures were damaged.

7/30/24 Morning Update - The fire remains 3,700 acres and remains 0% contained. All evacuation orders and warnings will remain in place.

UPDATE 5:00P.M. 07/29: The fire is 1,000 acres and 0% contained.
