Current Situation

FINAL UPDATE 10/30/22 11:00 a.m. - All evacuation orders and warnings have been lifted. The incident has been terminated and turned over to the clean up contractor. Please use caution returning in to the area.

Morning Update {UPDATE] 10/30/22 - 9:00 a.m. - Fire resources were able to make access to the container overnight and safely mitigate the incident. Fire resources will remain on scene this morning before turning the incident over to the clean up contractor.

EVENING UPDATE 10/29/22 8:00 p.m. - All evacuation orders and warning will remain in place. The next update will be tomorrow morning unless incident activity increases.

UPDATE 10/29/2022 6:30 PM - Firefighters and the HAZMAT team are continuing to mitigate the incident. The HAZMAT team has made entry to the container and are assessing the removal of the chemicals. All evacuation orders and warnings remain in place.

UPDATE 10/29/22 10:20 a.m. -Firefighters and the HAZMAT team are continuing to mitigate the incident. New evacuation orders and warnings have been issued for the area.

Evacuation Order Area: South of 7th Street, East of Hewitt St, North of E Evans, West of Timothy.

Evacuation Warning Area: South of Main St, East of San Jacinto Ave, North of Esplanade, West of Ramona Expy.

CAL FIRE/Riverside County Firefighters responded to reports of a chemical odor at the 800 block of Shaver Street in San Jacinto. The first arriving engine company found chemicals leaking from a shipping container. The chemicals were identified as pool cleaning chemicals. A fire has been contained inside the container, hazmat and cleanup crews are on scene.

As a precaution, an evacuation order has been issued for the homes East of Hewitt Street, South of 7th Avenue, North of Shaver Street and West of Camino Los Banos.

A care and reception site is now open at San Jacinto High School: 500 Idyllwild Drive, San Jacinto, 92583.
