Evacuations have been established for approximately five structures north of 30th Avenue, east of Calle Castillo Lane, south of Burr Oak Road and west of Desert Moon Drive.

A shelter in place has been issued for approximately 12 residences south of 30th Avenue, on the west and east side of Desert Moon Drive to Del Norte Way, north of Del Norte Way.

The fire remains at 20 acres. Firefighters will remain on scene for several hours today performing extensive mop-up and overhaul. Evacuation orders still remain in place. Unless significant incident activity occurs, the next update will be this evening.

Current Situation

CAL FIRE/Riverside County Firefighters responded to multiple reports of vegetation on fire at the 29000 block of Calle Castillo Lane in Thousand Palms. The first on scene engine company reported a large mulch pile on fire that had extended into a grove of palm trees. The fire is now approximately 20 acres, burning at a moderate rate of spread in heavy fuels. Multiple ground resources are on scene and expected to remain committed for several hours. Riverside County Sheriff's Department was requested to assist with traffic control on 30th Ave between Via Las Palmas and Vista De Oro.

UPDATE 4/18/22 at 9:30 PM The fire remains at 20 acres. The evacuations and shelter in place still remain in effect. Crews will remain on scene throughout the night. Unless significant incident activity occurs, the next update will be tomorrow morning.

UPDATE 4/19/2022 at 12:00 AM The forward rate of spread of the fire has been stopped. The shelter in place has been lifted for the residences south of 30th Avenue, on the west and east side of Desert Moon Drive to Del Norte Way, north of Del Norte Way. The evacuation order still remains in place.

UPDATE 4/19/2022 at 5:15 PM The fire remains at 20 acres and is 60% contained. All evacuations have been lifted. All roadways are opened. Crews will remain working in the area working on fire suppression, so please be mindful when returning home or driving near the area. Unless significant activity occurs, the next update will be tomorrow morning.

UPDATE 4/20/2022 at 9:00 AM The fire was 100% contained to 20 acres at 1:20 AM. All fire personnel have cleared the scene.
