4/14/23 @ 8:30 a.m. - All evacuations orders have been reduced to evacuation warnings. The evacuation center at Desert Mirage High School has been closed.

4/13/23 at 1130 p.m. - An EVACUATION ORDER has been placed south of Avenue 62, east of Monroe Street, west of Van Buren Street, North of Avenue 63.

Current Situation

UPDATE 4/15/23 @ 10:50 a.m. - The fire has been turned over to the Bureau of Indian Affairs as it is within their jurisdiction. All CAL FIRE/Riverside County Fire resources have been released. For updates contact BIA @ 202-208-3710 or newsmedia@bia.gov

UPDATE 4/14/23 @ 6:00 p.m. - The fire is now 20% contained to 19 acres. The change in acreage is due to more accurate mapping of the fire.

UPDATE 4/14/23 @ 11:00 a.m. - The fire remains at 27 acres and is 10% contained. Unless significant incident activity occurs the next update will be posted this evening.

UPDATE 4/14/23 @ 8:30 a.m. - All evacuations orders have been reduced to evacuation warnings. The evacuation center at Desert Mirage High School has been closed.

UPDATE 4/14/23 at 6:00 a.m. - The forward rate of spread has been stopped at 27 acres. Firefighters were able to place control lines around the fire overnight. All evacuation orders remain in place. Crews will be on scene throughout the day working on containment.

UPDATE 4/14/23 at 12:15 a.m. - An evacuation center has been opened at the gym of Desert Mirage High School, 86150 Avenue 66 in Thermal.

CAL FIRE/Riverside County Firefighters responded to reports of a vegetation fire in the area of Avenue 62 X Jackson Street in Thermal. The first arriving Company Officer reported a wind driven fire, with approximately five acres of brush burning at a rapid rate of spread. Additional ground resources were started. An EVACUATION ORDER has been placed south of Avenue 62, east of Monroe Street, west of Van Buren Street, North of Avenue 63. The fire is now approximately 25 acres.
