CAL FIRE/Riverside County Firefighters responded to reports of an outside fire at Highway 111 and Parkside Drive in North Shore. Upon arrival, firefighters found two acres of palm trees and heavy vegetation burning near the railroad tracks. The fire is currently 15 acres and has destroyed a small railroad bridge. There are no injuries or evacuations. Firefighters will remain on scene through to night to contain the fire. CHP has closed Highway 111 between Parkside Drive and Mecca Avenue. UPDATE 5/1/22 @ 12:30 a.m. : The fire is currently 25 acres and 0% contained. Firefighters are making good progress on getting fire hose around the perimeter of the fire. The next update will be after 8 a.m. unless significant incident activity occurs.
UPDATE 5/1/22 @ 8:25 a.m. : The fire is 12.5 acres and 50% contained. The change in acreage is due to updated mapping. Firefighters have stopped the forward progress of the fire and are continuing to mop up hot spots and build containment line. We have a significant amount of fire apparatus and personnel working this fire, we ask that you avoid the area if you can. If you must be in the area, please drive carefully and give firefighters plenty of space.
UPDATE 5/1/22 @ 1:23 p.m. : The fire is 15 acres and 75% contained.
UPDATE 5/1/22 @8:16 p.m. : The fire was 100% contained at 8:00 p.m. and final acreage is 15. While firefighters are no longer in the area, there are several large, slow moving railroad vehicles working diligently to rebuild the destroyed bridge. Please use caution.
